Hyperfixation Questionnaire #2
Maria is all about Youtube rabbit holes, earplugs and dan dan noodles
Hyperfixations is a series I've created with the goal of sharing recommendations from cool people like you. There's nothing better than receiving unbiased and non-monetized recommendations without any hidden agendas from like-minded people. Think of this as a group text from your friends :)
If you want to be highlighted, I’d love to have you. Just fill in this, and we’ll make it happen.
🧙♀️ Who’s our guest?
Maria writes Ten Dollar Latte, which includes monthly profiles of how she spends every cent, plus weekly newsletters on other money related topics. SLH: A must follow if like me, you love getting into people’s private finances. I also love her money takes!
She lives in NYC and loves exploring every corner of the city!
If that weren’t enough, her business Sidetracks is genius! along with her sister they create party card games.
Describe yourself in 3 words: Silly. Caring. Tough!
💗 What makes you happiest?
Spending time with family and friends, especially on a hot day by the pool or beach, or on a cold day in a cozy bar. SLH:there’s nothing more glorious than a pool day!
🌟 What’s your most recent micro-joy?
Using my Loop Earplugs. It's made exercise classes and concerts so much more enjoyable.
🛒 What’s a recent purchase you loved?
Momofuku Chili Noodles. They are perfect for people who aren't great at cooking (me). They are not quite as good as the Dan Dan Noodles at my favorite restaurant Spicy Moon, but they are less than $3 per package and are close enough at that price! SLH: I approve this message. Those are fantastic!
🐰 What was the last rabbit hole you went into?
I go on a lot of Youtube rabbit holes SLH: as one does!
My latest one was people who got plastic surgery/filler/botox and regretted it. It's eye-opening to hear those stories as there's a lot of pressure in New York City to look a certain way. There's nothing wrong with getting plastic surgery, but one of my friends recently told me "wrinkles and signs of aging are a privilege" and that stuck with me.
📺 Give us a TV show or movie recommendation!
My favorite movie is The Outsiders - it's from 1983 and is about Tulsa, OK. It's about how family (and found family) is more important than anything.
📖 What’s a book you enjoyed recently?
I LOVED The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo! I couldn't stop reading it - if you haven't read it yet, you need to. It's about a journalist who writes a book about a famous actress's life.
Thank you

This is a delight! I also love when someone is both tough and caring 🥹🙏
And the book Aesthetica really made me think a lot about the concept of Botox/fillers/etc. and our feelings towards them down the line. Love the sentiment about wrinkles being a privilege. 🥲
This was so much fun! That plastic surgery rabbit hole is fascinating...I feel like people never admit regretting it!
