is a recovering advertising copywriter obsessed with learning how to become a gentlewoman of leisure. Penguin pebbling is her love language. She writes The Simple Things, a newsletter inspired by one of her favorite Oscar Wilde quotes (“I’m a man of simple tastes. I’m always satisfied with the best.”). In her own words, her Substack is “ a non-influencery recommendations and lists like "Things I Love and Share" but less organized and more rambly.” S.L.H: honored to be called non-rambly
Grace in 3 words: Curious. Hungry. Restless.
On to the questions
💗 What makes you happiest?
No homework or deadlines
🌟 What’s your most recent micro-joy?
Hacks on HBO Max. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are so fucking funny, and I love how the people running the show approach intergenerational female friendship. I love prestige drama as much as the next person, but most of the time, I want to laugh until it hurts and watch people strive to be their best version and sometimes fail.
🛒 What’s a recent purchase you loved?
The OXO rotary cheese grater is designed with a seal and cap so you can store your cheese in between gratings. It makes it so much more convenient to add cheese to everything!
🐰 What was the last rabbit hole you went into?
House and Garden UK. I'm a creative director for a wholesale home decor company, and I was looking for inspiration. People are moving away from the greige monochromatic look, so I was trying to immerse myself in as many colors and mixed patterns as possible!
📺 Give us a TV show or movie recommendation!
Trying on Apple TV. It's a sitcom about a UK couple going through the adoption process. It was created and written by an adoptee, and it just has sooo much heart and laughs. S.L.H: Thank you for putting this on my radar!
📖 What’s a book you enjoyed recently?
I haven't been able to read as many books as I had in previous years, but one book I find myself always returning to is "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" by Gail Honeyman. I love reading stories about people not letting their history define them.
Thank you, Grace!!! And if you don’t subscribe to Small Things yet, you might instantly do it after you read her grab bag of things inspired by the July heat

I love Grace's newsletter! It's so thoughtful and personal!
I need another kitchen tool like I need a hole in my head, and yet...I simply must have that cheese grater?
