I have an ARC of "Bat Eater" that I didn't get to before it published, but I really want to! I just finished "Aftertaste" by Daria Lavelle, which releases next week, and while it's more speculative than horror, it is also about hungry ghosts. :)

Oh, that's amazing! I'll check that book out. I'm also reading Hungerstone, which deals with appetite and horror!

I love that the first tip on the reddit thread of small habits to improve quality of life is reading before bed. It's the one habit I started a year ago or so and that really changed my quality of sleep.

Also on the pronatalist movement. I listened to a super interesting podcast episode about it on "A bit fruity with Matt Bernstein". I'm not ready to be living The Handmaid's Tale in real life... The one thing that gave me hope is that apparently they had this pronatalist convention and only 200 people or so showed up. Mostly men. So hopefully it stays a disgusting niche thing for losers.

I can't agree more. Putting the devices away and reading makes space for a peaceful sleep.

I will listen to the podcast! It's a fascinating topic.

I hadn't heard of that book, looks so good, haven't read any horror in a while. I'm also watching Poker Face, I love it so much! Episode 1 & 2 were better than 3 imo. And I need to watch Forever! :D

Episode 4 was also fantastic. I think 1 and 4 have been the best so far. Can't wait for more.

I also really liked the adaptation of Forever! And I have an ARC of Bat Eater sitting on my Kindle - I should really get around to reading it soon.

Thanks Sara! I want to check out “Forever” now. Didn’t realize it was based on a Judy Blume. Also I want a sleep retreat especially if it clears my 👃

I don't think I've ever read a horror. I should really give it a try.

If you want to ease into reading a horror, check out the story Sara linked about the cruise line passengers getting left in Africa 👀 - unreal!!

I told myself not to read it right before my cruise but I’m a glutton for punishment. 😂

Not my genre either but I loved “Mexican Gothic” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Mexican Gothic and Our Share of Night are fantastic. If you liked Moreno Garcia, she has a fab book called Silver Nitrate. It's my fave of hers (and I've read everything she puts out)

Thanks for the reco and reminder on “Silver Nitrite” because at some point in time it fell off the TBR list. I was intrigued by the film studio and entertainment industry angle. I like the magic realism and Mexican cultural elements she weaves into her work and playing with different historical periods as well as the diverse stories of women of different ages and backgrounds. I’m a history buff and always learn something new.
